Summary
Today we're launching Agentic AI for NestedClock Business — the ability to take actions through natural language, not just ask questions. Tell the AI Agent what you need, and it does it. You just confirm.
This isn't a chatbot that generates text. It's an agent that resolves staff, checks availability, validates conflicts, and creates roster shifts — all through a conversation.
Update: since this launch announcement, the Agent has grown to 19 actions — including copying a whole week's roster in one step, managing leave, setting pay rates and adding allowances — and is now available as an add-on on Professional, not just Business. See the full list of Agent actions for everything it can do today.
How It Works
Open the AI panel and switch to the Agent tab. Then just say what you need:
- "Add James to Monday 9 to 5 at The Barber Shop" — The Agent finds James Wilson, resolves the date, checks the Barber Shop, verifies availability, checks for conflicts, and shows you a confirmation card.
- "Roster Sarah tomorrow 10am to 4pm" — Handles natural language dates, 12-hour times, and partial names.
- "Put James on next Friday 8 to 3" — If James works at multiple shops, it asks which one. If he's on leave, it tells you.
Every action shows a confirmation card with the full details — staff name, shop, date, time, and any warnings. Nothing happens until you click Confirm.
Powered by the Best AI, Not the Cheapest
We use Anthropic's Claude Sonnet 4.6 — the leading model for agentic AI workflows. It's the same model used by enterprise software companies for complex multi-step reasoning and tool use.
We don't cut corners on AI. We continuously evaluate and upgrade to the newest, most capable models as they become available. Your workforce management deserves premium intelligence, not a budget chatbot.
All AI processing runs on Australian AI infrastructure — your data stays in the country.
Built-In Safety
Giving AI the ability to modify data is a big responsibility. Every action has strict safety guardrails:
- Confirmation before every action — The Agent shows exactly what it's about to do and waits for your explicit confirmation. No silent changes.
- Server-side validation — Staff IDs, shop IDs, dates, and times are all resolved and validated on the backend. The AI model cannot fabricate or bypass these checks.
- Availability and conflict checks — Before creating a shift, the Agent checks if the staff member is on leave, marked unavailable, or already rostered at another shop.
- Secure confirmation tokens — Each pending action gets a cryptographic token that expires in 5 minutes. The AI model never sees the token — only you can confirm.
- Full audit trail — Every Agent action is logged with timestamp, user, and parameters.
- Admin and manager only — Staff and kiosk users cannot access the Agent.
Smart Edge Case Handling
The Agent handles real-world scenarios gracefully:
- Ambiguous names — If "James" matches multiple staff, it shows a numbered list and asks you to pick.
- Missing information — If you say "Add James to Monday" without a time, it asks for the missing details.
- Staff not assigned to shop — Shows a warning but still lets you create the shift (for cover shifts).
- Past dates — Warns you but doesn't block (admins sometimes need to backdate).
- Overnight shifts — Explains the limitation and suggests creating two shifts.
- Out-of-scope requests — Politely explains what's available and what's coming next.
Two AI Experiences
The AI panel now has two tabs:
- 💬 AI Assistance — Read-only Q&A. Ask about attendance, rosters, pay, leave, availability, and anomalies. Uses 17 data retrieval tools. Cannot make changes.
- ⚡ Agent — Takes actions. Currently supports roster shift creation. Checks conflicts, validates everything, requires confirmation. More actions coming.
Both are Business plan features, independently toggleable per tenant from the superuser portal.
What's Next
Roster shift creation is the first Agent action. We're planning to add:
- Leave approval and rejection
- Time adjustment creation
- Roster email sending
- Staff availability marking
- Shift editing and deletion (with extra confirmation)
Each new action will follow the same pattern: resolve → validate → preview → confirm. No shortcuts.
Try It Now
If you're on the Business plan, ask your administrator to enable Agentic AI from the superuser portal. Then open the AI panel, switch to the Agent tab, and try: "Add [staff name] to [day] [time] at [shop]".
