Introducing Email Alerts for Late Starters

3 min read19 March 2026

Summary

We're excited to announce a new feature that helps managers stay on top of attendance issues: automatic email alerts for late starters.

What's New

NestedClock now sends instant email notifications when staff members:

  • Arrive more than 5 minutes late
  • Don't clock in within 15 minutes of their scheduled start time
  • Miss their shift entirely

How It Works

  1. Set up subscribers: Add up to 5 email addresses to receive alerts
  2. Automatic detection: System monitors all clock-ins against rosters
  3. Instant notification: Emails sent immediately when issues detected
  4. Take action: Contact staff or adjust coverage in real-time

Why We Built This

Based on customer feedback, we learned that:

  • Managers can't constantly watch the live monitor
  • Late starts often go unnoticed until it's too late
  • By the time issues are discovered, the damage is done
  • Proactive alerts enable faster response

Key Features

Smart Detection

The system is intelligent about what constitutes "late":

  • Compares actual clock-in time to roster
  • Accounts for early arrivals (no false alerts)
  • Ignores staff not scheduled to work
  • Handles multiple shifts per day

Flexible Subscribers

  • Add managers, owners, or supervisors
  • Each subscriber must verify their email
  • Easy to add or remove subscribers
  • No limit on how many alerts you receive

Detailed Information

Each alert includes:

  • Staff member name
  • Location/shop
  • Scheduled start time
  • Actual clock-in time (if applicable)
  • How late they are

Getting Started

Email alerts are available now for all NestedClock customers:

  1. Go to Admin → Monitor → Email Alerts
  2. Add email addresses for subscribers
  3. Verify email addresses (check inbox)
  4. Start receiving alerts automatically

Customer Feedback

Beta testers love it:

"I can't be at my computer all day watching who clocks in. These alerts mean I know immediately if someone's late and can call in backup if needed."

— Sarah M., Retail Manager

What's Next

We're already working on additional alert types:

  • Missed clock-out alerts
  • Long break notifications
  • Overtime threshold warnings
  • Custom alert rules
